Investigating how energy sources fluctuate with an acute stress challenge in mountain dark-eyed juncos

For my Senior Honor's Thesis, I measured glucose and free fatty acids in response to an acute stress challenge in free-living dark-eyed juncos. I used general linear models to make associations between mass, fat storage and energy mobilization. My results suggest that energy mobilization capacity is influenced by body condition and the response may fluctuate over the breeding season (Kimball et al. 2024).

Assessing the seasonal change in glucose and corticosterone in mountain white-crowned sparrows

For an undergraduate independent research project, I measured glucose and corticosterone responses to an acute stress challenge across the breeding season in mountain white-crowned sparrows. We found that acute stress increased stress-induced corticosterone across the breeding season but not baseline corticosterone or glucose (see poster).
